Comfort Design

Comfort Design recycles manufacturing waste, including leather and fabric scraps. Also, they recycle their leftover foam and packaging materials. Comfort Design upholstery springs are crafted from recycled steel and the fiberfill in their arm and back pillows is derived from recycled materials.

Comfort Design use foam cushioning made with BiOH Polyols by Cargill Corporation from an eco-friendly resource – soybean oil. BiOH Polyols leave a much smaller environmental footprint than petroleum based products with a 23 percent reduction in total energy demand and a 61 percent reduction in non-renewable energy use. BiOH Polyols decrease global warming emissions by 36 percent compared to traditional petroleum derived products.

Comfort Design is committed to making our Earth cleaner, safer and more environmentally friendly. It’s not about being green – it’s about being a responsible citizen of the world in which we live.

Wood Certification- All Precedent frames are made from wood that has been grown in the US and certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). SFI certification assures consumers that the wood products they are buying do not contribute to the destruction of the worlds forestlands. Precedent frames emit very low levels of formaldehyde. The frames are constructed of engineered hardwood, which incorporates adhesives that contain phenol formaldehyde. Formaldehyde levels for Precedent frames is less than 0.1 parts per million, well below the maximum set by CARB (California Air Resources Board).

Cushions- All Precedent cushions are made from foam that utilizes technology from Cargill’s BiOH polyols. Polyol, a petroleum derivative, is the primary component used in the manufacture of foam. Cargill’s BiOH substitutes soybean oil for 20% of the petroleum that is ordinarily required to produce polyol, thus decreasing our dependence on foreign oil while leaving a smaller environmental footprint. For every pound of Cargill’s BiOH that is consumed, one half pound of crude oil is saved.

Recycled Polyester Padding- All padding used in the seat deck, outside arms and outside backs is made from 100% recycled polyester. Polyester fiber used on the inside arms and inside backs is made from 80% recycled material.

Recycled Steel- All Precedent metal parts, including springs, spring clips, staples, etc. are produced from a minimum of 95% recycled steel. They are painted with paints that do not include lead.

Water-based, Formaldehyde-free Glues- The glue used in securing Precedent frame parts is water-based and uses no formaldehyde.

Our Frames- Rowe uses kiln-dried hardwood solid and laminate boards that are precision-milled to make a solid frame, one that won’t twist, warp or crack. Joints are held solid with mortise and tenon or double-dowel and corner block construction.

EcoRowe focuses on crucial elements in our future a selection of fabrics produced from natural fibers, renewable fibers, and the use of wood from replenished, domestic forests for the frames and the choice of two eco-friendly seat cushion cores.

Our eco-cushion core contains plant-based, renewable materials which replace significant amounts of petroleum-based materials used in standard foam cushions. Their eco-down blend cushion core is a modern combination of high-resiliency foam with recycled fiber and a blend of duck feather and down. The cotton ticking used to encase the feather and down is no longer bleached.

Each piece of Rowe and Robin Bruce furniture will include eco-wood and eco-cushion cores. With your choice of fabrics, you can create a complete eco-friendly piece of furniture.

American Leather

This commitment begins at the very foundation of our custom-made furniture. Each frame is constructed from wood harvested from sustainable forests and is precision-engineered to create as little scrap as possible. The scrap that remains is recycled or reused by various organizations with whom we partner.
All leathers use water-based pigments, and we offer environmentally friendly leathers made through chrome-free processes. All American Leather furniture styles use soy-based BiOH® Polyols Renew™ foam cushioning that is fully recyclable and available in a wide assortment of firmness and densities. Additionally, since April 2014, American Leather has exclusively used foam, leather, fabric, and Ultrasuede® that are free from fire retardants in full compliance with CAL TB117-2013. Finally, all American Leather foam vendors are CertiPUR certified.

For every American Walnut + Ash Collection order, they plant a tree.

American Leather commitment to both the American Walnut + Ash Collection, and the mission of American Forests, which is to replenish forests and urban areas throughout the United States that have been depleted through natural disasters and other causes.
